1. Skiing and Snowboarding
Ober Mountain is the only place in Gatlinburg where you can find full-size ski slopes. That’s why one of the best winter activities at this attraction is skiing and snowboarding. You can rent the equipment you need and then take to the slopes for a day full of snowy fun and adventure. There are a few different chair lifts you can take to reach various levels of slopes. There are slopes for all experience levels, from easy to most difficult. If this is your first time, you can sign up for ski or snowboard lessons to learn from expert training professionals.
2. Snow Tubing
Another great winter activity is snow tubing. Ober Mountain is one of only a few snow tubing places in the area. The tubing hill at Ober Mountain offers thrilling fun for all ages. You don’t need any special skills or equipment. You will be provided with a tube, then you’ll ride the “Magic Carpet” to the top of the hill. All you have to do is climb aboard the tube and let gravity do the rest. You’ll reach exciting speeds as you race down the 350-foot long tubing hill with its 50-foot total drop. Because there are multiple lanes, this is a great activity to do with friends and family as you all race one another to see who’s the fastest.
3. Ice Skating
If you’re looking for winter fun without facing the cold weather, check out the ice skating rink at Ober Mountain. This large indoor ice arena can be found in Ober Mountain’s enclosed mall and is open all year long. In the winter, this is a great way to escape the cold outside while still participating in a fun winter activity. There is a handrail around the entire perimeter of the ice rink, which means even beginners can enjoy ice skating. Skates are available to rent, so no need to worry if you don’t have your own.
4. The Snow Zone
The Snow Zone at Ober Mountain is a place where kids–and the young at heart–can indulge their winter fantasies and play around in fresh snow. This winter play area gives you the freedom to make snow angels, build snowmen, and play to your heart’s content. Just be aware that no snowball throwing is allowed, as this can potentially cause injuries. The Snow Zone is included with each ski area ticket, or you can purchase a ticket just for this winter activity.
5. Scenic Chairlift
If you’re looking for a more peaceful way to enjoy winter, check out the Scenic Chairlift at Ober Mountain. This 3,019-foot long chairlift brings you up a 779-foot rise in elevation above the mountaintop park. You’ll reach the peak of Mt. Harrison from which you can see breathtaking views all around. This is a great way to sit back and just enjoy the mountain scenery around you. The chairs each fit two people, so you can ride with a friend or significant other for a relaxing journey up and down the mountain.
